Don brings a well earned reputation and an unmatched level of experience to the Nicklaus Academy at DragonRidge as the result of a career in golf that spans nearly 50 years. Don has split his time between Utah and Las Vegas creating good will and great golf swings wherever he has been. Don was the mentor of Mike Malaska, the world-wide Director of Instruction for Nicklaus Academies. There are few instructors - anywhere - that can match Don's ability to see, communicate and fix a golf swing. In addition to his work with Mike, Don has coached PGA Tour winners (Grant Waite), Senior Tour winners (Bob Betley), Women's US Open Champions (Jerilyn Britz) and a Junior World Champion (Skyli Yamada at age 14).
Don spent a number of years as the Head Teaching Professional at The Desert Inn CC and as the Head Professional at Paradise Valley CC, both well recognized golf havens in the Las Vegas area. And for 28 years, Don was the Head Professional up at the Hidden Valley Country Club in Salt Lake City, Utah. At each stop, he left the place and its members in far better shape than when he arrived. And along the way, Don completed on the PGA Tour in 1969, was the Senior Champion for the Rocky Mountain PGA Section PGA three different times, and was awarded both the Professional of the Year and the Teacher of the Year by the Rocky Mountain PGA Section.
Don recently moved back to the Las Vegas / Henderson area. If you don't find Don inside the Academy, look for him out hitting balls - still working on his game - or playing a friendly match on the DragonRidge course.
Dustin brings a wealth of golf and sports experience to his position as the operations manager and staff instructor at the Nicklaus Academy at DragonRidge. Having grown up on a golf course in Park City, Utah, Dustin has been playing golf since before he was five. He split his time between golf, soccer and that as a nationally ranked alpine ski racer earning a scholarship to the University of New Mexico and a position on the US Ski Team Development Team.
Dustin's strengths are in his ability to teach players of all abilities - and all ages - in the Nicklaus Coaching Studio, in the various instruction areas at the Academy and out on the DragonRidge course. A number of his students are posting consistent top results at local and regional events. His understanding of pressure and the ability focus under stress (and how to deal with it in the heat of competition) - plus his interaction with the fitness and nutrition professional at the DragonRidge Fitness Center - delivers new and innovative training scenarios for his students.
Dustin is also the chief technology guy and the primary club fitter at the Academy with experience custom fitting and recommending the latest products from PING, TaylorMade, Adams and more.
